Fuel tankers

10 Oil tankers have been parked off our shores for months, refusing to unload their oil until fuel prices rise. The delay makes millions for speculators and keeps your petrol costs soaring. They are part of a flotilla of ten vessels refusing to unload their precious cargo until market speculation has driven up its price to the level they want. The fuel has risen from £313million to £378million - an increase of £65million, or more than £1 million poound a day. It's is not hard to see why prices at the pumps are forecast to have risen by 26 per cent in a year by this Christmas.

Ross  - Fuel Tankers - anchored waiting for a price rise!   |86.163.87.xxx |2009-11-20 13:22:12
Coming from a shipping background myself, these ship's are ladened because they
sit low in the water. Usually when anchored at the river mouth they are awaiting
a berth, that could be delayed due to other traffic/tide/repairs/etc, but an
anchored ship will usually tender its 'notice of readiness' legally saying its
ready to berth/discharge and the receiver/cargo buyer is delaying this process!
Therefore massive demurrage (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demurrage) claims
will be made onto the cargo owners for such delays by the shipowner (think while
sat idle, ship still needs fuel/pay crew/etc and with one cargo aboard it can't
get its next cargo!). Thus price of fuel could go higher because fuel owners
could be massively out-of-pocket with this compensation claim!
