Another £30 of diesel has been used by my 306 and yet again I have proved that Hypermiling DOES work. This fill has seen my 306 travel an extra 70 miles over what I would have expected before Hypermiling with an impress figure of 59MPG - just 1MPG from my 60MPH target. Thats not quite Prius figures but for an old diesel engine thats done 160K miles thats pretty good. However... thats not quite as impressive as my Hypermiling attempt in a 2002 BMW 320D, for such a large car that produces 150BHP I was utterly shocked to achieve an amazing 85.1MPG for a journey to and from the pub on Friday. With that kind of return from a car that costs less than £5,000 is there really any need for a Petrol Hybrid?? Maybe question will have to wait until I have a chance to try one.
